Guestbook Archive - June 2009

I am grateful for the books I have bought and used for revision ever since first buying CGP for Year 9 SATS. However entering AS this year I am disappointed to see a very limited selection of material. For example my options are Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Economics and Government & Politics. Only Maths and Physics are fully covered (no Further Maths modules). You have Business Studies but no Economics and no Government & Politics resources at all. I will be looking elsewhere for the first time since a way back for a new publisher.

Are there any Key Stage 4 ICT revision books?

Fahim Miah — bow, United Kingdom — 29 Jun 2009 at 16:27:49

Guestbook Editor: There sure are! Just check out the Product Range section of this site for details...

Our Business Studies tutor would like to know whether there is likely to be a new edition this year for this book.

Teresa Sutton — Bournemouth, United Kingdom — 29 Jun 2009 at 16:24:11

Guestbook Editor: Good news, Teresa — there'll be a brand-new A2 Business Studies Revision Guide for the new specs in time for the start of the new school term. Your tutor can just give us a call if she'd like to make an advance order.

The best book EVER.

Nathalie safowa — london, United Kingdom — 28 Jun 2009 at 17:44:34

It stinks, I hate it, rubbish.

This book is very interesting about design technology.

These books are really good. You can get books that are really dull but these are interesting. Thank you.

Card system (new one) won't accept my card. Thanks for taking 15 minutes of my life (rather annoyed)

Robert Mellink — nottingham, United Kingdom — 22 Jun 2009 at 21:45:56

Guestbook Editor: Oh dear, sorry about that. It usually works fine but there have been one or two gremlins I'm afraid. Please just give us a ring and we'd be happy to sort it out for you over the phone.

Will you be introducing French for Key Stage 2?

Berry — Watford , United Kingdom — 21 Jun 2009 at 20:20:39

Guestbook Editor: Not just yet, we're afraid, but thanks for the suggestion — we'll look into it!

Really good book and a really good use of revision, and getting good marks on your exam paper is just really wonderful. Thanks a lot.

ryan williams — bolton, United Kingdom — 21 Jun 2009 at 18:08:36

Hey, have you got any A level Chemistry books for OCR that are ready for the summer?
I need to revise! Thank you.

Supria — manchester, United Kingdom — 21 Jun 2009 at 13:00:42

Guestbook Editor: Well, the AS ones are already done. As for A2, we're working our socks off to get them out as fast as we can, Supria. They should be ready in the next month or so — watch this space...

I think they are very educational. I'm in KS3. In a couple of years' time I'm doing GSCE and maybe might stay on to do A-level. I think these books are a great price! For great revision I would certainly reccommend it to a friend. I'm not really that great at maths, well these books will help me to get better grades in maths.

Brendan Quinn — Ardboe, United Kingdom — 20 Jun 2009 at 20:19:49

Your revision guides are great for GCSEs but are there any plans for revision guides for IB?

Annissa — Slough , United Kingdom — 19 Jun 2009 at 19:37:28

Guestbook Editor: We've got no firm plans for any books for IB right at the moment, Annissa — sorry!

Is there a revision guide for AQA A2 chemistry? There is only one for all the exam boards. It would be really helpful if there was.

Bethany — York , United Kingdom — 18 Jun 2009 at 23:07:04

Guestbook Editor: You're in luck, Bethany! We have separate Revision Guides on the way for all the main A2 Biology, Chemistry and Physics specifications, including AQA. They'll be ready in time for the start of the new school term — phew!

I think that the only annoying thing is that you under line every other flippin' word! Please don't. It confuses a lot of people.

Anna — Bolton, United Kingdom — 18 Jun 2009 at 19:12:00

Excellent prices for excellent books!

Andrew Hicks — Swansea , United Kingdom — 18 Jun 2009 at 17:03:56

Hellllloooooooo your books may have saved my skin during my GCSES but......
Please can you make a book for A level Media production, Geography and English Language?
Media is a biiiiig business with lots of jobs but it's extremely hard to get jobs in media. Please can you make a media production revision guide, it would help many A level students in the future.
Please comment this editor :D

Indie Gal — Bpool where it rains, United Kingdom — 18 Jun 2009 at 16:30:54

Guestbook Editor: We're afraid we've no current plans for an A level Media Studies book — sorry! But the good news is that we do cover English Language at AS level, and an A2 one is just around the corner. We've also got a great AS Geography Revision Guide — yay!

(Commenting on book MAHR42, GCSE Maths AQA Modular Revision Guide - Higher

It's very good and explains things very well.

Ryan — jordamstown, United Kingdom — 18 Jun 2009 at 14:12:07

I love your science books, you got me A*s in my GCSEs and hopefully all A's in my A-levels too! :)
However I think they lack in experiment descriptions and do not contain every single topic in the specification, like the physics AS (OCR), I lost whole 5 marks on a question where we had to describe an experiment (you actually told specifically that "you don't need to know it") because I relied only on this book, I was really gutted about this! I can no longer entirely trust it when they say "you don't have to know this" any more.
I will still use your books because they make hard topics sound so easy though. :)

Sarry — , United Kingdom — 17 Jun 2009 at 22:20:15

Guestbook Editor: It's great to hear that you love our books! About the comment in the Physics book — please could you let us know what topic this is, and what page it's on? Then we can have a look at it and see if it's something we need to correct. We like to make all our info as accurate as possible, so if something's wrong, we'll get it sorted!

CGP might want to consider producing books for University level... (Medical CGP books by any chance??)

ahmad jeilani — london , United Kingdom — 17 Jun 2009 at 20:44:54

Guestbook Editor: Thanks for the suggestion, Ahmad. It would certainly be tricky covering uni subjects, as the content of the courses varies so much between different universities. But we'll definitely look into it — you never know!

I love this website because itz really getting me ready for my GCSEz and I think I'm going to pass.

farhana — luton, United Kingdom — 17 Jun 2009 at 19:07:05

Olivia Kuit — Surrey, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 20:13:41

It is an excellent website and pefect for students but the one problem is that it is not clear what books are available for BTEC science - overall a 10/10!

jusna begum — london, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 20:00:22

Hi, I was just wondering why you did not produce a Drama Textbook and a Latin Textbook. I love your books and will be getting them for all the subjects I can next year but those two would really help. So would an Art textbook. Your books are the best!
Keep going.

Sukayna — Friston, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 18:45:30

CGP is the best at making books.Your books have helped me revise all my maths and science. I would put you on top of my favourite revision book list.

Andrew — Manchester, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 17:57:56

CGP is for me and my friends in school the best company who makes Revision and exercise books.

Pira — Hayes, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 17:23:41

Your books are cool.

molly wood — selby, United Kingdom — 15 Jun 2009 at 08:50:10

Hi CGP folks - Love your books and stuff! Have you really sold 6 million? That's crazy.
I'm currently doing GCSE, but for A-Level I plan on taking Business Studies, Economics, Drama and Computing. I see you make an AS ICT book, but what about Computing? From what I hear they're different.
Also, can you publish an AS/A2 Economics Revision Book? If you get started now, it might be ready for when I take my A-levels (I'm in Year 10 now) :)
Many thanks, keep up the good work,
~ Jack

Jack — Norwich, United Kingdom — 14 Jun 2009 at 14:00:20

Do you not do workbooks for AQA AS level science?

hafsa — , United Kingdom — 13 Jun 2009 at 14:10:28

Guestbook Editor: Well, not exactly... but all our AS and A2 books have loads of useful Practice Questions and Exam-Style Questions on every double page — so that should give you plenty of chances to practise what you've learned!

It is insanely ridiculous that someone has made the comment: 'I do not even have to teach my students anymore!' Because teachers actually get paid to teach not to buy tacky, false information books that will just drag their students down. If I went to this teacher's school and was not 11 I would definitely sue the teacher who made this comment.

Marcin S — Hammersmith , United Kingdom — 12 Jun 2009 at 15:01:09

I have just completed my GCSEs and just want to say how grateful I am for your books and the extensive range at GCSE. I do have a slight critisim though, I have been looking for my favourite revision guides for my AS level courses but you don't do anything in the subjects I'm taking! No Politics, no History. I, and doubtless many other people would be extremely grateful if you could print these books soon with specific exam boards!
Thanks for the help!

Georgie C — Northampton, United Kingdom — 12 Jun 2009 at 11:10:40

Guestbook Editor: We're sorry we don't do those subjects yet. It's really tricky, because we like to take the time to make sure the books we do produce are absolutely cracking — rather than just churning them out half-heartedly for every subject. But thanks for the suggestion, Georgie — we'll look into it!

Oh hello. I love this page, it is the best for me and my friends. Thank you for making such a yummy site.

mariama jalloh — bedford, United Kingdom — 11 Jun 2009 at 14:38:51

This is rubbish. For anybody who wants some good revision and can't get the books that they need, I won't be using CGP any more !!!

Sam — Wigton, United Kingdom — 11 Jun 2009 at 10:54:56

Great books, ordered in the afternoon, delivered the following day all present and correct. It's a shame more suppliers aren't as good. Thank you for the excellent service.

Ken Stook — Cirencester, United Kingdom — 11 Jun 2009 at 10:33:42

I think CGP books have pretty much saved me from GCSE failure. Thank You!!

Fay — London , United Kingdom — 11 Jun 2009 at 10:13:00

CGP produce some of the best revision guides for students taking their exams. Although they have some odd jokes in them, they add some humour to the stress of revision! Who wants to revise from a boring revision guide, that just explains what to do and has a few diagrams in them?
Although some may consider CGP's tone "patronising", it does make the subject content easier to read and understand, especially for stressed out students like me!
My only criticism is the lack of AS/A2 level of resources - PLEASE produce more, especially for subjects like English Literature, where there are practically NO resources for us miserable 6th form/college students!

(Commenting on book CRBR51, AS-Level Chemistry OCR B (Salters) Revision Guide

This book was fantastic, esp. seeing as the normal textbook the school provides you with is usually AS and A2 mixed together. There are some minor snags that it sort of skips some of the practical stuff, but as a complementary revision guide it worked well for me.
Do they have an A2 version of this book??

Budgie — Palmers Green, United Kingdom — 10 Jun 2009 at 17:24:11

Guestbook Editor: Great news — our shiny new A2 book will be out in time for the new school term, along with loads of other stonking new books that are fully updated for the new specifications. Hurrah!

Hi, I just want to say that I love your range of books and have found them very helpful through my GCSEs, but why don't you do any Welsh Second Language books? As I know that many people would want to buy them.

sarah — Newport, United Kingdom — 10 Jun 2009 at 16:16:43

I think your website is the best website I have ever been on and those brats of people who call your products bad are idiots for complaining about such a brilliant site. Thank you so much for your website and your products. They really helped my 13 year old son and my 16 year old daughter.

alex — manchester, United Kingdom — 10 Jun 2009 at 12:18:02

CGP books treat the readers like five year olds.
They are annoyingly patronising!!!
Please sort this out---especially for GCSE and A level books!!!

tom — manchester, United Kingdom — 09 Jun 2009 at 21:12:33

CGP books are excrutiatingly awful, I have learnt nothing at all from them and as for this website, it's disgraceful... I have wasted a whole 20 minutes on your authentication process, it's literally impossible to purchase one of your products, I don't believe in second chances so I will NOT ever be visiting this website again.

My name is personal — oxford, United Kingdom — 09 Jun 2009 at 18:51:07

I love this site! I didn't expect it to be so cheap for those books which really help and even teach. Thank you so much for everything this website provides.

alex — manchester, United Kingdom — 09 Jun 2009 at 18:45:48

These revision guides are great! I have used them since my early GCSE years and now I am studying A-level, they have been even more helpful! Their clear example question and answers and easy to read paragraphs make learning much more fun and enjoyable. Thank you!

Becky East — Derby, United Kingdom — 09 Jun 2009 at 17:22:11

Just been reading through the physics OCR higher book for my exam on Wednesday, and I have to say it's taught me more than our rubbish teacher has. You've managed to make the dull further Physics topic far more interesting. I will be using the Biology book for Friday that's for sure!

Thankyou and I hope my points help a lot of people.

ashleigh edwards — bracknell, United Kingdom — 08 Jun 2009 at 20:54:45

Your authentication process has made it impossible for me to purchase one of your products therefore I must try a different supplier. I am very disappointed and I have wasted 15 minutes of my time, I will not be using your website again.

Christine Heward — Derby, United Kingdom — 08 Jun 2009 at 20:12:04

Guestbook Editor: We're sorry to hear you've had problems. The system usually works fine, but it does play up from time to time, and we're working hard to improve it. Please just give us a ring or drop us an email, and we'd be happy to take your order that way instead.

The big GCSE books are useless and you should stop selling them. However the smaller books which are specific to each board are excellent and lots of people have failed exams because of the big book.

linda — manchester, United Kingdom — 08 Jun 2009 at 16:57:40

I sit CCEA exams and your books are different but I used them anyway and they really did pay off! Never before have I been able to understand rather than learn in such a quick period of time!

I have purchased a number of CGP books and have been thoroughly overwhelmed by the dramatic increase in my marks. I would like to thank CGP for producing such marvellous information...
However, I don't think those jokes are quite appropriate ALL the time... at least you tried.

Cherry...x — Alghero, Italy — 07 Jun 2009 at 14:50:56

The CGP books are great and so easy to learn from!! I suggest that you should make your workbooks so that you can write the answer in a space instead of using a different piece of paper!

Your books are gr8 ! I think you could improve on the detail (only a bit more like why things are like this etc.) and make the jokes even funnier. I love all the drawings and the cool colourful pages. They really make revising fun! Keep it up guys!

Lily — London, United Kingdom — 07 Jun 2009 at 11:06:52

Just like to say thank you, for such great books, I love your layout, and especially the exam questions at the end of each topic (at A level), absolutely brilliant.
But the best thing is, you guys at A level properly follow the specification for the exam board, and tell us literally everything we need to know. For the OCR AS biology, there are some things on the specification, that are not on even in the OCR textbook, but you guys have put it in your revision guide and I was amazed.
So thanks, I will most definitely be using your guides again to A2.
P.S. too bad you dont have uni course CGP revision guides!!

T — , United Kingdom — 06 Jun 2009 at 22:21:36

I think that the CGP maths books are fab. But I think that they could have mulitiple pages on a particular maths subject. E.g Say for an example have a section of (5) pages on adding up or times tables. A lot of school kids have trouble with long division. I know I did. Still do. I'm now 36, and enjoy simple basic maths immensely.

leighanne crimp — caldicot, United Kingdom — 05 Jun 2009 at 14:57:56

How come you do French, German and Spanish but not Swahili or English (as a foreign language). Wish me luck, I have checkpoint in two weeks!

Peter Bandeen — Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, United Arab Emirates — 05 Jun 2009 at 09:51:35

Guestbook Editor: Good luck, Peter — we're all counting on you.

I generally really like your books! I think they are fantastic value, especially if you buy quite a few at once. My 2 girls are home educated and my 9 year old is fantastic at maths after following your books - though I'm a bit sad that you've done away with the Year4/ Year 5/ Year 6 type format as this has been so great for her. She's just finishing the Year 6 classbook B and everyone comments on how brilliant her maths is! We are using your AQA modular books for my 13 year old in preparation for her maths GCSE.
One thing I would like is if the workbooks for KS3 (eg the Science strategy books), had more space to fill in the answers. My eldest detests copying stuff out! That would make your good books really great!

Sarah Owen — Chichester, United Kingdom — 05 Jun 2009 at 00:22:39

Hi, I find your books a great help for my exams, but I was trying to find an A2 AQA Biology revision guide with the new syllabus, but noticed you don't have one. Is there any chance there will be one in time for September? Thanks.

Sophia — East Sussex, United Kingdom — 04 Jun 2009 at 23:38:35

Guestbook Editor: Great news - we've a whole load of shiny new A2 books for the new syllabuses coming out ready for the new term, including AQA Biology. There'll be details on the website very soon...

I think CGP are a great help and if anyone says they aren't, why don't they buy some other ones and stop moaning. I love the books where you have mini exams at the end of each chapter, it means you can make sure you know it. Thanks!

Chloe — Newcastle, United Kingdom — 04 Jun 2009 at 17:53:42

In your excellent AS Physics revision guide for Edexcel, there are 2 pages on diffraction gratings (pages 54 & 55). This is really great physics, but it is not on the Edexcel syllabus. As it is also quite difficult, unnecessary effort could be expended in trying to learn and understand it!!

Kevin Mosedale — Abingdon, United Kingdom — 04 Jun 2009 at 09:23:24

Guestbook Editor: Thanks for the tip-off — you're quite right. We take great care only to include the things you really need to know, but this one must have slipped through the net - sorry! We'll get onto this and sort it out for the future.

I have your English revision guide for the book I studied this year for my GCSE English exam, Of Mice and Men. I found the guide not only useless and unhelpful in any way but also quite offensive and patronising. The crude pictures and unhumorous remarks, that I think were meant to be funny, one did not help with my learning and two made me feel quite sick. I also loathed your insensitive portrayal of the characters and plot as a whole.

Becky — Cardiff, United Kingdom — 02 Jun 2009 at 19:00:45

Guestbook Editor: 'Fraid there's no A2 Geography book just yet. But our A2 range is getting bigger all the time, so hopefully there'll be some other subjects we can help you with.

CGP.... Your books are very helpful as I hear from many, and from personal experience.
However, I am currently studying for my GCSEs (I am in Year 10) and I chose sociology as one of my GCSE chosen subjects. I didn't know if you have any sociology books out as I cannot seem to find any on the website. My questions are:
Do you have any GCSE Sociology Revision Guides?
Are they put under a specific exam board, eg. OCR?
(If you don't have any) When could you put them out?
My exams will be next year but I should revise early... Can you put out a Sociology Revision Guide before then? Thank you in advance...

Sociology learner — Hillingdon, United Kingdom — 02 Jun 2009 at 18:45:56

CGP are terrible and the jokes are even worse.

Georgina — bpool, United Kingdom — 02 Jun 2009 at 12:20:56

I really love your revision guides. I think that the people who have made negative comments on your books are being ridiculous as your books contain everything needed to gain excellent marks. I believe that it is good that your books have plenty of interesting and stimulating pictures and jokes in them. If they did not, I would have fallen asleep when using them. People need to realise that revision is all about going over the stuff that they have learnt and looking at in more detail and understanding the things that they do not understand with the help of their teachers. Books do not teach, they only guide!
Overall, I think that CGP books are the best and that if they do not suit you, which is unlikely in most cases, try a different revision guide....simple XXX

Muryum — Bolton, United Kingdom — 01 Jun 2009 at 21:24:47

I actually really love CGP Books because they're not normal, boring revision books which you can never learn from. They have jokes and gags which makes them even more entertaining and fun and their pictures are so cool - thats how I passed my exams! I LOVE CGP BOOKS! ;)

Shapla — London, United Kingdom — 01 Jun 2009 at 15:42:31

I've used your books in England since I became a teacher. I love their layout and engaging use of colour. I have now moved to teach in Scotland and, although I still use them for myself in preparation of resources, I wish you did versions for the Scottish syllabus which I could recommend/order for students.
