Simple Equations Practice

Here are some different kinds of equations to practice.  You may want to do some calculations in rough on paper to help you get the right answers.

Linear Equations
Solve the following equations:

  1)   2a + 20 = 5a + 5 a =

  2)   3 - 2t = 15 - 7t + 8 t =

  3)   5(a - 2) = 4(a - 1) a =

  4)   7(2e + 3) = 3(4e + 9) e =

  5)   1 + 3m + 5 = m + 18 - 4m m =

Simultaneous Equations
Solve the following pairs of simultaneous equations
by substitution, graphically or by elimination:

  6)   3a - b = 18 a =
      2a + b = 7 b =

  7)   3s - 4t = 25 s =
      s + 2t = 5 t =

  8)   2x + 3y = 23 x =
      x - y = 4 y =

  9)   a + b = 1 a =
      b = a - 5 b =

  10)   b = -2a + 1 b =
      b = 3a - 4 a =

Changing the Subject of the Formula
Make x the subject of the formula in the following equations:
Please don't leave any spaces in your answer or it won't register —
you need to write m+b not m + b for the game to work properly.

  11)   x - t = m x =

  12)   kx = c - d x =

  13)   a(x - b) = c x =
