Shape, Space & Measures

Here are some questions on shapes, space and measures. For some of them, you might want to work on rough paper to help you get the right answers.
  1) Approximately how tall, in metres, is a man who is 5 feet 10 inches?  
  2) What is the area of a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a height of 6 cm?  
  3) What is the volume of a crate 3m wide, 3m deep and 4m tall?  
  4) Find the area of the following shapes  
    a)  m2    b)  m2  
  5) How many lines of symmetry have each of the shapes below?  
    a)      b)      c)   
  6) Write each of these volumes in two different ways. (Make sure you include all the right digits).  
    a) 0.330 litres of cola ml  cm3
b) 750 ml paint litres  cm3
c) 75 cm3 aftershave litres  ml
  7) The hands of a clock are 120° apart on the hour during the afternoon. What time is it?  


  8) How many degrees are there in 3 right angles?  
  9) What is the perimeter of a regular pentagon with sides of 25cm?  
  10) A model ship is made to a scale of 1:10. If the mast of the model is 95cm, how high is the real mast?  
  11) A garden 4m long and 3m wide has a 0.5m wide path around the edge. All the rest is lawn. What is the area of the lawn?
