Employee Profile — Will
Marketing Designer and Copywriter (previously Editor)
Tell us about yourself:
After leaving university I taught maths in a secondary school for a couple of years before taking a slight career change and applying for a Trainee Editor position at CGP. I was excited to put the experience I’d gained from both my degree and as a teacher to good use.
Tell us about your time in Editing:
As an Editor in the Maths team I helped create a variety of books for students from KS1 right through to A-Level. As well as being paid to come up with wonderfully terrible jokes, I gained invaluable experience in writing material, reviewing other Editors’ work and designing graphics. Working as an Editor was thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying — especially seeing my name in print!
Tell us about your current role:
One of the great things about CGP is the variety of opportunities to develop and further your career. I’d always had an interest in advertising, so I couldn’t resist applying for a Marketing Designer and Copywriter position when it came up. I’ve only recently started this role, but I’ve already got stuck into designing materials such as flyers, emails, website posts and banners for educational shows. It’s a really varied and rewarding job and I’m excited to see the impact my work will have on book sales.
What advice would you give to graduates looking for jobs now?
Stay positive and be persistent! Always ask someone to look over your CV/application — making a great first impression is really important. And consider applying to CGP of course!
