As Commercial Insight Analyst, you’ll join a growing team based at our head office in the beautiful Lake District. Working closely with colleagues across CGP, you’ll analyse sales, identify trends and report to senior management on key commercial priorities that will drive CGP’s growth.

If you’re an experienced analyst who’s adept at delving through data and drawing insightful conclusions, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll have a logical approach, a curious mind and you’ll just love those ‘what if?’ questions — a great problem-solver.

Needless to say, your proficiency with Excel will be a given (maybe you’ll even know a smidgeon about SQL too), though we’ll introduce you to all our other systems once you start.

As Commercial Insight Analyst, your responsibilities will include:

  • Retail support (including Amazon, WHSmith and Waterstones)
    • Range & merchandising reviews — suggesting which books should be stocked where
    • Improving the quality of data (both internal data and externally purchased sales data)
    • Supporting retail contract negotiations and promotions by providing sales and data analysis
    • Monitoring levels of stock held by retailers
  • Schools support
    • Maintaining the quality of CGP data about schools
    • Account selection for direct marketing, and analysing the success of mailshots
    • Maintaining exam sittings data by Key Stage or Subject to support the Product Development team’s plans for new products
  • Creating and communicating regular sales reports to the whole business
  • Preparing and delivering ad hoc reports to the senior team as required
  • Improving our processes so that we work more efficiently
  • Monitoring competitors’ performance
  • Dealing with requests received from around the business via the Commercial Analysis Helpdesk
Specific skills, experience and attributes

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who loves analysing qualitative and quantitative data — someone who has a real interest in how we can use data to gain commercial advantage.  You’ll be an experienced analyst (in any industry) with a positive “can do” attitude and a logical approach to problem solving.  You’ll be:

  • Highly numerate and intelligent (with a good degree)
  • Commercially and analytically minded
  • Skilled in Excel
  • Able to use, or keen to learn, Microsoft SQL (e.g. for sales analysis)
  • Happy to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling priorities and tasks
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and analyse imperfect data from both internal and external systems
  • A strong communicator who’s able to explain detailed information in simple terms
  • Confident enough to challenge — asking the “what if?” questions up front
  • Open-minded, curious and eager to learn
