What will I be doing?
You’ll be planning and writing engaging resources for KS2 teachers to use in the classroom or as homework e.g. PowerPoints, games, worksheets, experiments… lots of good stuff!
My teaching experience is in Scotland/Wales/NI/somewhere else. Can I still apply?
Yes, as long as you’re happy to spend time beforehand getting yourself up to speed on the English curriculum.
Will I be employed by CGP?
No — you’ll have a freelance contract (for up to 6 months) with one week’s notice on either side.
What’s the daily rate? And for how many hours?
It’s £125 per day, and that’s for 7½ hours. We work Monday to Friday, 9am – 5.30pm, with one hour for lunch — and no playground duty! Bliss?
Can I work part time?
When you apply, please tell us what hours you can do and we can chat about it later. But you would have to be available for calls and meetings (virtual or otherwise) during our standard working hours.
Can I do some of my hours at weekends?
Yes, that’s fine, as long as you’re also available for calls etc. during the week.
I only have 2 days free per week – is that enough?
It might be! Ideally we’d like a minimum of 3 days per week, but don’t be put off — if you’re a specialist with great experience in a subject we’re looking for, it could still be a goer.
How/where will I do my training?
We’ll teach you all you need to know (and provide tea and biscuits) at one of our lovely offices — just like our employees. If you’re not able to get to the Lake District, we can discuss remote training.
How long will the training take? Will I be paid for it?
It’ll take about a week (5 days) and of course we’ll pay you — same rate (£125/day).
Can I work from home – even if I’m local?
We can chat about that later, so please mention it on the application form so we don’t forget.
Do I need my own equipment?
We’ll sort everything out for you if you’re based in our offices. But if you’re working remotely, you’ll need a laptop, PC or Mac with MS Office installed.
What about special software?
Word and PowerPoint are just fine. If by chance you’re already an InDesign user, please let us know when you apply.
Who’ll have the copyright?
CGP will own the copyright for anything you create for us.
How will I know if I’ve been selected? What’s the interview process?
We’ll drop you an email to let you know if you’ve been selected for a short test and Zoom interview. So the quicker you apply, the better…
When can I start?
If you’re successful, you could be starting within a matter of weeks.
Will I be working by myself or as part of a team?
You’ll probably be part of a small team, with a CGP employee managing your work.
Can I have a holiday in the summer?
Ooohhh holidays — we remember them! Yes of course you can have time off but if you’re planning to be away for several weeks, that probably won’t work. If you’ve got long holidays booked, just tell us when you apply.
Can I work for other publishers at the same time as working for CGP?
The work you do for us needs to be unique to us — and you mustn’t have conflicts of interest. We’ll be asking you to sign a Confidentiality Agreement before you start so if you’re concerned about this, please just say.
