£22-24k depending on experience, plus excellent benefits

As one of our Skilled Gardeners, you’ll primarily be based at our 40-acre head office estate in Broughton-in-Furness, but we’ll expect you to be flexible and willing to work on whichever site needs your skill and expertise.

You’ll be looking after our extensive private gardens so you’ll be horticulturally trained with impressive plant knowledge and a great eye for detail.  You may have relevant qualifications already but we’re just as interested in people who take real pride in their work and are qualified by experience.

Comfortable directing others and leading by example, you’ll be organised and disciplined in your approach to everyday tasks.  You’ll also need to be:

  • Self-motivated
  • Driven by providing great customer service
  • An effective communicator and a good team player
  • Flexible — happy to do whatever’s needed
  • Reliable and approachable

Given the nature of our sites, a driving licence is essential.

Role (responsibilities) 

Reporting to the Grounds Manager, you’ll be a key member of our Estates Team.  As one of our Skilled Gardeners, you’ll primarily be based at our 40-acre head office estate, Eccle Riggs Hall, but we’ll expect you to be flexible and willing to work on whichever site needs your skill and expertise. 

Comfortable directing others and leading by example, you’ll be organised and disciplined in your approach to everyday tasks.  As part of the team you’ll:

  • Maintain and improve formal and informal gardens / grounds
  • Design new planting schemes for borders of varying size
  • Follow pre-planned planting schemes when directed by others
  • Work with traditional gardening tools and methods
  • Carry out routine garden maintenance
  • Undertake spraying and pest control

Skills and attributes
